Mechanism of action of biperiden
This drug helps to exchange the activity of cholinergic and dopaminergic systems in the basal ganglia by partially blocking the receptors of the central cholinergic system. In addition, it has some local anesthetic and antihistamine effects. It may also have a minor effect on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
Pharmacokinetics of biperiden
The drug is completely absorbed orally and metabolized in the liver and excreted by the kidneys. The effect of the drug begins 10-30 minutes after intramuscular administration.
Contraindications to the use of biperiden
In the presence of untreated urinary retention, angle-closure glaucoma, gastrointestinal obstruction and should not be used in children under 3 years of age.
Side effects of biperiden
Dry mouth, indigestion, confusion, blurred vision, urinary retention, palpitations, hypersensitivity, nervousness, hallucinations, drowsiness, hypotension (injectable form) are some of the side effects of the drug.
Biperiden drug interactions
Concomitant use of this drug with other drugs that have muscarinic effects can cause side effects such as dry mouth, urinary retention, constipation and meningitis in the elderly. These include tricyclic antidepressants and MAO enzyme inhibitors, phenothiazines, antihistamines, amantadine, and disopramide. Biperiden reduces the effects of sublingual nitrates by causing dry mouth. Parasympathomimetic drugs reduce the effect of Biperiden, ketoconazole and neutralize the gastrointestinal effects of cisapride.
Warnings do not jump
Use with caution in the presence of cardiovascular disease, liver or kidney failure, glaucoma, intestinal obstruction and urinary retention or in the elderly.

2. Medication can affect things like driving that need to be controlled.
Avoid concomitant use of the drug with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
