Mechanism of action of naloxone
This drug blocks the micro-opioid receptor. In this way, it prevents the effects of opium-like drugs that are exerted by stimulating this receptor. (Including weakening of the respiratory center in the central nervous system).
Pharmacokinetics of naloxone
The onset of action of the drug is 2-5 minutes after intramuscular injection and 1-2 minutes after intravenous injection. The duration of action of this drug is 1-2 hours after injection. It is metabolized in the liver and its metabolites are excreted in the urine. The half-life of the drug is 64 minutes.
